Starting May 7, 2025, all air travelers 18 and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative for identification to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities.
Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced its intent to extend the REAL ID full enforcement date by 24 months, from May 3, 2023 to May 7, 2025.
The Department of Homeland Security will delay the requirement for air travelers to have a Real ID-compliant form of identification, pushing it back 19 months, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Tuesday. The deadline was supposed to be Oct. 1, but it's now being postponed until May 3, 2023.
